Me, my deli & Elle Deco

Kassia & Figg on the Deco Taste page

Kassia & Figg on the Deco Taste page

…and of course, my mom.  Because the deli is both mine and my mom’s.  But wait!  Let me start at the beginning.

The wildly talented and extremely astute, not to mention gorgeous Louise McCann, features editor at South African Elle Deco, has included our deli, Kassia & Figg, in her Deco Taste page of the May issue of Elle Deco.

So there we are, with a lovely piece entitled Village Charm, all about our fab breakfasts and passion for real food.  With a picture by yours truly which is just making me drool.  Not because I’m such a good photographer, but because it is a platter full of fresh strawberry cream puffs, full of sunshine and happiness, which I made for the deli in December when strawberries where in full season.

Today is a rainy, purply grey day and on the deli menu are freerange beef burgers and chunky tomato soup with organic sourdough toast.  Not a strawberry cream puff in sight.  But somewhere out there strawberries are in season, so I include a link to my strawberry cream puff recipe, along with encouragement to go forth and bake, and send me the pics to prove it!

And for those of you in South Africa, why don’t you pick up the May issue of Elle Deco and check it out.  Or check out their blog.  I thouroughly recommend it as a magazine with exceedingly good taste.

Thanks Val. I’ve just been visiting yours and come back to find you’ve been in my kitchen. Sorry, but I think I’ve eaten the last of your strawberry stratciatella

    Hello Inge,

Came across your site quite by happy accident. It’s lovely! The colours and layout are beautiful…clean and easy to navigate. I thought you might like to have a squiz at a Veggie Foodie site that I thought was quite original and well written as well as being very amusing. www. bunnyfoot.blogspot.com…maybe you already know it?Thank you for your tips re: checking out quality sites like Cooksister etc. It’s definitely been very helpful and inspiring.

    au revoir xx

Those strawberry puffs are extremely drool-worthy. It’s great that you’ve been featured in Elle Deco – hope it brings all the foodies in Cape Town to your door. We’ll be over too one of these days!

    Thanks Jen, and Kit.

Jen, I will check out that site, I have not come across it before.

Kit, thanks. I am so sorry to have missed a day with you and Charlotte, but you never know…maybe in Somerset, or Germany one day.

Congratulations on your very worthy inclusion in Elle Decor, and sorry I didn’t get there in person to see the deli. I am sure we will still meet – somewhere, sometime.

Congrats on the Elle Deco mention – I discovered Kassia & Figg a while ago and it is such a great little place that it really deserves to become one of Kalk Bay’s hotspots. (I must have missed the strawberry puffs though, what a drag … I hope you’ll be making them again!)

Andrea, thank you. And Jeni. Ciao Bella. How are you?
Andrea, I’m just going to have a look at your cheesecake. I could have done with a couple at the deli this afternoon. It was a public / bank holiday and we were frantic and sold out of practically anything.

Wow – you’re just the media queen at the moment ;-) Can I have your autograph, please? OK, actually not – I’d rather have one of those strawberry cream puffs! Missing you here in the UK – when are you coming back??
